Textron Aviation
Industrial Design Internship
Summer 2024
Textron Aviation provides airborne solutions for government, military and commercial customers. This is a recap of my Summer 2024 internship. Throughout the internship I worked with 4 different projects with different designers on each project. This allowed me to grow and learn with each project, picking up new knowledge from each collaboration.
Project 1 | Step Redesign
Create a product vision for the a turboprop aircraft interior refresh through brainstorming and selective inspirational images that helps suggest the projects conceptual direction and intent, as well as beginning to establish its overall DNA.
Address the first touchpoint/interaction the user has with the turboprop by updating/improving the visual aesthetics, as well as exploring possible functional upgrades.
Clunky - Industrial - Awkward Integration
Final design
This is a complete overhaul to modernize the design language of the existing step design. The design includes considerations for improved safety in the form of the textured surface. The front LEDs also improve visibility.
Project 2 | Form Research & Concpepts
This project was split into two phases: research and concept design.
RESEARCH PHASE:
Prepare a survey of vehicle interiors representing the most expensive (newest standard production) vehicle from the following automotive brands. Understand the brands design language and how they communicate a sporty vs. luxury interior.
CONCEPT PHASE:
With observations in mind, I produced a series of tailoring and panel redesigns of a seat.
